Pulwama attack: AICWA announces ban on Pakistani artists

Following the dreaded Pulwama terror attack, The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) on Monday issued a complete ban on Pakistani artistes in the country, saying they will resort to strong action against anyone who collaborates with talent from Pakistan. The announcement comes after 40 CRPF jawans were killed in the terrorist attack of Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir.

In a notice undersigned by Ronak Suresh Jain, General Secretary, AICWA, it said: "All Indian Cine Workers Association strongly condemns brutal terrorist attack on our soldiers at Pulwama district in Jammu and Kashmir. Our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims. AICWA stands with nation in confronting such terror and inhumanity."

"We are officially announcing a total ban on Pakistani actors and artistes working in (our) film industry. Still if any organisation insists on working with Pakistani artistes, (it) will be banned by AICWA and a strong action will be taken against them. Nation comes first, we stand with our nation."

In the wake of the incident, President of the Indian Film and Television Directors' Association, Ashoke Pandit called for a complete ban on the work of the Pakistani artistes in India.

"No Bollywood filmmaker will take any Pakistani artiste in his film. Even music companies will stop working with Pakistani singers," Pandit told India Today Television.

"If any filmmaker or music company does not listen to the FWICE, we will stop the shooting of any film with Pakistani artistes and vandalise its sets," he warned.

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) warned music companies to drop songs by Pakistani singers and not work with them in the future. "T-Series has already removed Pakistani artistes' videos from their various channels from February 15 and has decided to ban them all in future. Ditto with other music companies," Amey Khopkar, President of MNS Chitrapat Sena, told IANS.
